Or at least I hope to write and talk about all of that. Sources have been surprisingly difficult to find. But I'm doing my best with what I've found. There's some pretty interesting stuff out there, although much of it isn't professional or well-sourced itself.
Animated Films. (2015). Retrieved from http://www.filmsite.org/animatedfilms.html This is essentially a chronology of major events in animated filmmaking. While it covers a great span of time beginning in the 1800s, much of its focus is given to events that happened in the time period of my focus.
Evans, B. (2013, February 26). Animated TV in the 2000s: DVD Resurrection, Adult Swim, and the MacFarlane Empire. Retrieved from http://splitsider.com/2013/02/animated-tv-in-the-2000s-dvd-resurrection-adult-swim-and-the-macfarlane-empire/ This is actually the second of two articles written about the changes in the animation industry during the 1990s and 2000s, primarily focusing on adult animation, which hardly existed before then.
Sullivan, G. (2014, September 30). Saturday morning cartoons are no more. Retrieved from http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/09/30/saturday-morning-cartoons-are-no-more/ This is a news article from when the very last Saturday morning cartoon block in existence ended. It's a clear marker of the shift that has happened, and contains some useful information on the changes that have taken place.

This is a very interesting and different topic and thesis; it is one that brings to many childhood memories of my father watching TV shows that had racial stereotypes depicted. Work on getting some more sources, maybe CQ researcher will have a discussion of race and then a discussion of how TV shows have changed; you can mesh those two topics together.
ReplyDeleteThis really is a great subject to write a 7-10 page essay about! I've though through this shift so much myself over the course of my development that I always wondered why it happened and I can't wait for you to enlighten me. You can definitely incorporate movies and TV shows into this subject its the same industry in a sense and it would give you much more to talk about. They to finding resources for such specific topics are to use key words and I do recommend to begin to search for article or journals early because it will hard to find the perfect support for these essays.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool topic and I am excited to see what you do with it! If you find yourself at a complete standstill, I bet you could somehow correlate your claim to another claim about the roles of adults in another facet of life and how that has shifted with the same chronology as your topic. You are an excellent writer, so I am sure that regardless of how minimal your sources may be, your end result will be great.
ReplyDeleteLuke, I'm glad you've gone with a topic you love, and I hope that you're able to tap into some additional sources as you continue researching. I don't think you'll have a problem showing that the shift has occurred, as you can demonstrate this both with research and your own observations.
ReplyDeleteMy one pressing question is this: What is the overall significance of this shift? Besides from the greater diversification of outlets and audiences, why/how does this matter to our culture, entertainment, etc.? (The thesis should indicate this significance, and the essay should support/explain it.)
Wishing you the best as you write!
